The 2015 Knoxville Film Festival (KFF) is presenting a Student Filmmaking Competition. The competition is open to Middle School and High School students. Each student/team of students will create a short narrative or documentary film about whatever subject they chose. Each film must be no shorter than 5 minutes and no longer than 20 minutes. The completed films must be submitted no later than May 20, 2015. The best 12 films (as determined by our panel of judges) will be screened (6 Middle School and 6 High School).
The 2015 KFF Student Filmmaking Competition is open to students who are currently enrolled in middle school or high school.
Participants must complete an online registration form and agree to the terms, conditions and rules of the competition. Online registration can be found at: www.knoxvillefilmfestival.com.
There is NO Registration Fee. Each film/team selected to screen will receive 2 Passes to the screening of the competition films at the 2015 Knoxville Film Festival, which will be held September 17-20, 2015, at Regal Downtown West 8 Cinema in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Registration will take place beginning on January 15, 2015 and will close at 8 pm on May 1, 2015. Registrants must submit a completed registration form. Registration may be completed online at: wwwknoxvillefilmfestival.com.
All costs associated with the production of the Entry are solely the responsibility of the Entrant.
Eligible Entries will be judged based on the judging criteria stated below.
The best 12 films (as determined by our panel of judges) will be screened during the 2015 Knoxville Film Festival.
All films must be submitted no later than May 20, 2015, to the address listed below. The deadline for submission of your film is a hard deadline. No films will be accepted or allowed any revisions after the submission deadline. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Your Digital Film File Specifications:
Your finished film as per the specifications above. Your film should not be shorter than 5 minutes and not longer than 20 minutes. This includes credits. Please do not put a slate at the beginning of your film.
You may deliver your film on a Thumb Drive, Hard Drive or Data DVD (no Blu-Ray). Upon delivery, we will check to make sure all deliverables are on your drive.
All submitted films must meet high technical standards as determined by Knoxville Film Festival management. Films that have significant technical issues (bad audio, audio out of sync, etc.) may be disqualified from competition and not screened at the film festival. Team leaders are strongly urged to make sure that the technical aspect of their film is of the highest quality possible.
Winners will be announced at the Knoxville Film Festival. A variety of awards and prizes will be presented to various winners of the competition.
If any group of individuals elects to collaborate on an Entry, they are required to designate one (1) person as the agent of the group to enter the Project, agree to these Official Rules and accept the prize on behalf of the group. KFF management is not liable for any disputes between collaborators arising out of or related to the Project.
Entries will be judged by a process in which a qualified panel of judges will evaluate each eligible Entry based on the following judging criteria:
The Top Entry will be declared the winner. Entrants agree that KFF management has the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from this Project and that all decisions of the KFF management are final and binding.
By submitting an Entry into this Project, each Entrant warrants and represents that the Entrant owns all rights to the Entry he/she is entering in this Project, including, without limitation, the video or digital recording, and the performance contained in each Entry, with the exception of any assets provided by the Shootout for use by Entrants in connection with this Project. Each Entrant further warrants and represents that the Entrant has obtained permission from each person who appears in the Entry to grant the rights to the Shootout Management described in these Official Rules, and, upon request, will submit copies of such permissions to the Project Parties. By submitting an Entry, Entrant agrees to the Official Rules, and further agrees to indemnify and hold KFF management harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) and liabilities (including settlements), brought or asserted by any third party against KFF management due to or arising out of the Entrant’s Entry materials in this Project, or the Entrant’s conduct during and in connection with this Project, including but not limited to trademark, copyright, or other intellectual property rights, right of publicity, right of privacy or defamation. Entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold harmless KFF management from any and all claims that any advertising, presentation, web content or any other material subsequently produced, presented, and/or prepared by or on behalf of KFF infringes on the rights of Entrant’s work as contained in any Entry.
By participating in the Project, Entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold Shootout management harmless from any and all claims, damages or liabilities arising from or relating to such Entrant’s participation in the Project.
